A Harford County Newborn Session | Meet Baby Axel

A Harford County Newborn Session

Some sessions just feel like they were meant to happen exactly the way they did.

How the Session Started

Every Harford County newborn session at my Bel Air studio begins the same way. Parents settle in, baby gets a fresh diaper change and we let the first few minutes unfold without any agenda. I never rush the start of a session. The transition from carseat to studio is its own kind of settling, and pushing too fast through it almost always costs you more time on the other end.

With Axel, we did exactly that. His mom nursed her one more time while I set up the first outfit for the family portraits. By the time we were ready, he was deeply asleep and completely content.

That first feed takes about twenty minutes. Those twenty minutes, in my experience as a Harford County newborn photographer, are some of the most important of the whole session.

The Family Portraits

Axel’s parents joined us for the first portion of the session. His mom sat down holding Olivia against her chest, and we got the shot almost immediately. That complete ease that a newborn has on their mother’s chest, that total surrender into her arms, is something no prop or backdrop can replicate. It is the most natural thing I photograph and often the most beautiful.

His dad held him next, his hands so large around his tiny body that the scale almost made me catch my breath. I see this every session and it never gets less meaningful.

The Wrapped Portraits

We started with a caramel wrap against a green backdrop. He settled into it immediately. He curled her fingers around a little teddy bear without any effort, the way newborns do when they feel completely safe.

The Detail Shots

Between poses, I always take time for the details. These are the images that parents look at ten years from now and genuinely cannot believe their child was ever that small.

The Posed Portraits

Once baby Axel was in his deepest sleep, we moved into a posed setup. I unwrapped him and dressed him in a knit outfit. I have a papasan baby chair that I have been using for years, one of those props that has appeared in more Harford County newborn sessions than I can count. He fit into it perfectly, bottom settled, hands tucked, face peaceful.

Composite images

They also chose two composite images. A composite image is created by blending multiple photographs together in Photoshop to achieve a final result that is creative and art-like, or that would not be safe or possible to capture in a single shot. This allows for a beautifully finished image while always keeping safety the top priority.

How the Gallery Came Together

The number of set ups, poses, and images included in your gallery is determined by the package you choose. Some families love having a wide variety to select from, while others prefer to keep things simple and focused. Either way, you will walk away with beautiful images created with care and safety in mind, photographs you will cherish for years to come.

Proof galleries, where you select your favorite images, are typically delivered about one week after the session. Axel’s parents received theirs right on schedule, and their final, fully edited images were delivered within ten days of submitting their selections.
