Wrapped Newborn Session | A Simple, Sweet Mini Session for Your New Baby
By Jussara | Sugarloaf Photography – Bel Air, MD – Serving Baltimore and Harford County
Not every family needs a full newborn session. Sometimes you just want a handful of beautiful, timeless portraits of your baby – simple, sweet, and done. That’s exactly what a wrapped newborn session is designed for.
If you’ve been looking at newborn photography and feeling a little overwhelmed by the options, the wrapped newborn session is the most straightforward one I offer. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is a Wrapped Newborn Session?
A wrapped newborn session is a focused mini session where your baby stays snugly wrapped the entire time. Rather than working through a full range of posed setups, prop baskets, and family portraits, we keep things simple and concentrated on your baby – wrapped beautifully, photographed with care.
That simplicity is actually what makes it so special. Because we’re not rushing through a long list of setups, I can give each wrap, each texture, and each tiny detail the attention it deserves.
What’s Included in a Wrapped Newborn Session
Every wrapped newborn session includes:
A variety of wrapped and semi-wrapped poses. Your baby will be wrapped in several different ways using a curated selection of wraps and textures from my studio collection. Each setup creates a completely different look, so even though the approach is simple, you’ll walk away with a variety in your gallery.
Macro detail shots. These are my favorite part of any newborn session. The eyelashes. The fingers. The tiny toes that will never be this small again. I set aside dedicated time in every wrapped session to capture these close-up moments, because they’re the ones parents look back on most.
Beautifully styled prop setups. We’ll incorporate a few carefully chosen props – bowls, buckets, soft textures – that complement the wraps and keep the focus on your baby rather than competing with it.
10 professionally edited digital images. You’ll receive 10 final images, all of your baby. These are edited, delivered, and ready to print or display.

How Much Does a Wrapped Newborn Session Cost?
A wrapped newborn session at Sugarloaf Photography is $495, which includes 10 edited digital images of your baby.
Families are welcome to add on a family or sibling portion to their session. Reach out and I’ll walk you through what that looks like and the additional investment involved.
How Long Does a Wrapped Newborn Session Take?
My sessions are not time-based, but a wrapped newborn session typically runs about one hour. Because we’re not working through a full list of setups, the pace is relaxed and unhurried. If your baby needs to eat or be soothed, we stop and take care of that. The goal is always a calm baby, not a rushed session.

Who Is a Wrapped Newborn Session Right For?
A wrapped newborn session is a great fit if:
- You want beautiful newborn portraits but don’t need a full gallery
- You’re looking for a simpler, more focused experience
- You want only baby portraits, without a full family session
- Your budget is closer to $500 than a full session investment
- You just want something timeless and sweet without a lot of fuss
This may not be the right fit if you’re looking for a wide variety of setups, lots of lifestyle or siblings or family moments, or a large gallery of images. For that, a full newborn session is the better choice.
When Should I Book a Wrapped Newborn Session?
The same rule applies here as with any newborn photography, the best time to reach out is during your second trimester. Wrapped newborn sessions are still photographed within the first 5 to 14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and most comfortable being handled and wrapped.
I hold spots based on due dates, and availability is limited each month. Don’t wait until after your baby arrives to reach out by then, the best dates are often already taken.
Where Is Sugarloaf Photography Located?
My studio is at 1 Heighe Street in Bel Air, Maryland, about 30 minutes north of Baltimore. I serve families from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, Cecil County, and the surrounding area.
If you’re in Baltimore and wondering whether the drive is worth it, it is. The studio is warm, calm, fully stocked, and designed specifically for newborn sessions. You won’t need to bring anything except your baby.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add family or siblings to a wrapped newborn session? Yes. Family and sibling portraits are available as an add-on. Reach out for details on what that includes and the additional cost.
What wraps and props are used? Everything comes from my studio collection. You don’t need to bring anything. I’ll select wraps and textures that photograph beautifully and suit your baby’s skin complexion and size.
Is the wrapped newborn session safe? Absolutely. Wrapping a newborn correctly requires experience and care. I’ve been photographing newborns for 14 years and follow industry safety guidelines established by organizations like the Professional Photographers of America to ensure every baby is handled with the utmost care
What if my baby won’t stop crying? Completely normal. We take breaks, feed, soothe, and try again. A fussy baby doesn’t ruin a session; it just means we slow down and work with them. In 14 years, I’ve never left a family without beautiful images.
What’s the difference between a wrapped newborn session and a full newborn session? A full session includes a wider range of posed setups, prop arrangements, angles, lifestyle moments, and typically family and sibling portraits. It runs 2 to 2.5 hours and produces a larger gallery. A wrapped newborn session is more focused: baby only, wrapped beautifully, 10 final images, approximately one hour. It’s a smaller investment and a simpler experience.
